As we get closer to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Northern Florida’s (“JDRF”) Jacksonville Party with a Purpose “Into the Blue” event taking place on November 9th, I wanted to reach out to you all about why my family is raising money and awareness for a cure for Type 1 Diabetes (“T1D”).
The chosen Fund A Cure family shares their story of living with T1D at this event every year. As JDRF Northern Florida’s 2023 Fund a Cure Family, JDRF interviewed us about what they mean to our family and why we are passionate about helping them fundraise for a cure. While we expect to be emotional when we see our story shared for the first time during the event, we also hope it will be impactful. Regarding the “Why?” question, I would like to share a few things our family discussed when interviewed.
My wife Falyn has been living with T1D since she was 14, and this year, our youngest daughter, three (3) year old Macey, was diagnosed. In just the past few years, we have seen giant leaps in transplant immunology, autoimmune immunology, beta cell biology, and technology treatments – unlike any we’ve ever seen in T1D. To continue building on these advancements, we all must support JDRF to bring the best scientific minds, companies, investors, and, of course, the most motivated donors in the world to our fight. A T1D diagnosis is always life-changing for that individual, but we are hopeful for the future thanks to JDRF.
Fund A Cure is the most impactful way to support JDRF’s mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications. When you give to Fund A Cure, it’s an opportunity for you to help the lives of everyone living with TD1.
Your donation, whether $100 or $100,000, goes 100% directly to T1D research, is 100% tax-deductible, and will drive research toward therapies that improve lives, even possibly lead to a cure one day. All Fund A Cure donations will be invested in JDRF’s effective and focused research agenda to progressively remove the impact of T1D.
While it is exciting that attendance for the event is SOLD OUT, you can still help make a difference by donating directly to our Fund a Cure page!
Will you consider making a gift for a world without T1D?
With gratitude,
Joshua Shilts & Family
